About us.. us who? Desert Photos that's who

Funny thing about life... you never really know where it is going to take you, You have dreams and thoughts of who you will become. But does it always happen, If your lucky and really really honest with yourself it can. This is a short story about Dreams coming true... but it is a dream we did not realize we had.

Desert Photos actually started in 1963, which just for those keeping track is YEARS before one of the Desert Photos team was even born. The place was Brazil Indiana and the person was an inquisitive 12 year old boy. One day he was handed a Kodak Browing camera. With the imagination this man has today.. you can guess how he was at 12. Thus the Love for photography was born. To see what other did not... to see the things overlooked.. and the love of moments in time forever caught on film. With a keen eye and lots of time some wonderful photos were taken and memories made.. but it is not all about the pictures taken but lessons learned in the field... lessons he still carries with him today and HARPS about when someone else, by someone else I mean me, is behind the camera. Fast forward to 1978. A young woman gets a 110 Kodak camera. Problem is this young woman has a little sister. A little sister who every chance she got took that camera and took photos of goodness knows what. So many pictures developed and then tossed with the words "You little brat Don't touch my stuff" You would think lesson learned, but this is me that you are talking about, so no lesson NOT learned. For years the young woman yelled at her sister and for years the little sister continued to snag the camera and take very random photos which continue to get tossed away. Fast forward again... I do hope you are wearing your seatbelts as these jumps happen often. Anyway fast forward to 1990. The young woman has not become fully grown and her little sister, NOT so little anymore, still borrowing her sisters stuff.

The young man from Indiana as well as these two women are living in.. where else.. the desert. Kinda tells you where the name way up at the top comes from huh. So anyway the older of the two sisters falls in LOVE thus creating a moment that will forever change 2 lives. After introducing the younger sister to the man from Indiana the older sister moves away and the little sister moves in and rents from the man from Indiana. Thus forming a friendship that still carried on today. Fast forward a year, the formerly little sister now a full grown woman, comes home and discovers under the porch... A CAMERA. She waits for the man and tells him his camera had arrived. The man said "what camera" the woman hands him the camera and he said " not mine you can have it" BAM the world of Photography comes back in to play. Fast forward 10 years to 2001. Hundreds of photos taken.. lots of laughter... still best friends. Living in ARKANSAS. The woman is taking photos of places and events for two main reasons. The first reason is for the one that she loves. Who can not longer get to some places but wants to see what the woman sees. The second reason is for the joy and love of photography. Through a series of events the man and the woman, now married for 10 years by the way, decide to go camera shopping. As they have decided that the camera is playing a much larger part in their lives then they thought it would. Off to the local camera shop. The husband tells the wife "Lets get you a very good camera that will last you years and years." Little did he know the falseness of that statement.

So the purchase of the original F100 Nikon Camera and the original lens took place, this creating the person that is known to many as Nikonlady. That would be me for those of you following the story. Hang on Fast Forward to 2003. The words were said "Honey can I try digital" The honey said "Sure baby whatever you want" Then there was a Sony Digicam. For about 7 months and the the words "Honey... can we get a Nikon?" were uttered. The honey said "Ummmm OK sweetie" Now we have a Nikon D70. Fast forward a few more months and then we are in Odessa Tx. At a Camera shop and low and behold there was a 70-300 lens. OHHHH it was like Christmas. A bitten lip and Honey said "OK sweetie but you might as well get this other stuff too." Fast forward another year and OH there is a NEW NIKON D200 on the market. Once again the woman bites her lip and looks at honey and honey said "OK sweetie but get a new bag and a tripod too." We had already created the Web sites and bought the Business License and this was just the next step. With this you have the story of Desert Photos Dreams we did not know we had and love we share have created what is now a large part of our lives. The events of the area we live, the people, the places and a shared love of cameras, photography and each other carry us through our lives day by day. Laughing and doing what we can to bring the things we see and the beauty that surrounds us to the rest of the world through the lens of Desert Photos.
