A base of dirt and rock, splashed with colors that take your breath away all set against a beautiful blue sky backdrop. Throw in a few clouds and maybe a wild creature. Then there are the babbling brooks or the lazy creeks that some where over the horizon turn in to brilliant blue lakes?
Take all of this and what do you see? A painting by a world renown artist?
No.
You see the Southwestern desert. With vistas that make you stop and have to remember to breath. Canyons of such color and depth you stare in awe of the beauty. Streams so serene you dream of picnics and lazy days.
For those who look and truly see ...
This is the beauty of the Southwest.
Please join us on our journey to take your breath away.

Out through the desert you come upon Queen, a settlement from the early 1900, as you continue the journey you drive through a place with canyons and vistas as far as the eye can see, The colors of the soil and the outcropping of rocks cause you pause at what can only be deemed breathtaking. You have entered Dog Canyon. On the back side of the Guadalupe mountains and just this side of Texas. A place of quite beauty but only if you know the way.
Dog Canyon Area
Artesia a town rich in history and oil. Today the town and its people
have embraced this history in the downtown area. We are happy to bring you a small taste of this in the following photos. It is something that is pretty in photos and amazing in real life.
Artesia
Green pastures, babbling brooks, quiet waterfalls, russian thissle...... in the desert? Yep it happens and it happens in the area known as Mayhill and Cloudcroft. A great little destination for a day trip to the Mountains and rivers and cool breezes that are often not associated with the hot Arid desert. Please Enjoy what we see on a trip up where the clouds touch the ground.
Mayhill to Cloudcroft
A big chunk of concrete, formed into a trench, crossing over a river and a road. OK and the big deal would be? History that is the point. Part of the reason behind the success of the area in the 1800's. Part of why there is a Carlsbad today.
Ever heard of a river that crosses over itself. YES its kinda cool because according to Ripley's "Believe it or not!" such a river exists in Carlsbad, New Mexico. At one time, due to the help of an extremely large flume, the Pecos River crosses over itself.
Check it out for yourself. If you enjoy the architecture of the time gone here is a piece that is still in use today. Good old fashion things built to last many lifetimes.

Now every now and then we do get a little snow, no not like big sister does in Alaska or even home in Fagstaff, but we do have blizzards? Good thing we own 4-wheel drives.

Along the banks of the Pecos River. With a abundence of Cottonwood trees. Soft green grass and a beach playground. This is what most people see when they see Carlsbad. This series of photos has that. As well as a few more things that people may or may not notice on their daily outtings. Things that we as citizens tend to forget as intresting or pretty. Come revisit Carlsbad and maybe see things you forgot or overlooked.
Carlsbad
In everyday life we encounter all kinds of shapes, and how often do we see them. We drove around and took pictures of things we often overlook. Some of the photos are in black and white to emphasize the shapes, while others are in reduced color. Next time you have time, take in all the shapes nature throws at us.
Shapes and Angles
It is a time for Mother Nature to start to show us her beautiful colors. She is changing her palette from the beautiful greens of summer to the yellows and reds of fall. From the trees in the yard to the goldenrod in the fields.
The brilliant light of her summer sunrises and sunsets have turned to the softer golden tone.
All these things can bee seen as you look around. All of these things a sure sign that winter is on the way. Mother Natures telling us that there is still time to enjoy the days of cooler temperatures before the cold sets in. Her way of saying "Come see my new design before we paint it white" (Silly women are never done decorating are they). We intend to capture as much of this new design as we possible can, for all to soon it will be gone for another of her color palettes. At the end of the day we see the storm clouds gather, the rain comes, but still the light of the coming day shines through. Always remember the world is a beautiful, hand painted picture just waiting for us to stop and admire it.

Where we first started with Nikon cameras, too bad we only had a cheap scanner at the time. This is the beginning of a hobby that has taken us many places. Introduced us to many people and been the driving force behind what today is something we hope you all can enjoy with us. Come with and lets start the journey.
Western Arkansas
This is a place where kids can be kids and run and climb and chase the wind through the cracks and crevices to their hearts content. So come see a small sampling of my old stomping ground. Then when you get the chance take your little ones there to run and climb and chase the wind.
City of Rocks (north of Deming)
A nice summer day and your partner in crime (<------ that guy) says"Hey Lets go for a ride, grab the gear." SO you load up the truck and take off. Nice drive to the Guadalupe mountains where you take photos of the Mountain and the trees and the sky. Then comes the catch. "Hey jump in the back of the truck and we will drive down into the valley" Alarm bells should have sounded but NOOOO not with me. So we go ... down the highway... passing COPS as they laugh at me... in the bed of the truck.... Taking photos... AT 65 MPH. Yeah lets not do that again. Ohhh but a time will come, maybe on a toy run, where HE is in the bed of a truck..... things to think on. Come on in and enjoy my ride in the wind.
The Guadalupes
In 2002, we found (mind you it was found LONG before we got there) this beautiful area known as Sitting Bull Falls. it has since become a favorite shooting spot for us. This is our first trip out with a our film camera. Please come in and enjoy the wonder we found that day.
Sitting Bull Falls
AWWWWWW, sitting in your lawn chair, listening to the children laugh and play, dangling your toes in the cool water as the skidoos zip past making waves that cover your feet as they make contact with the shore.......wait a minute.... This is called DESERT photos. Where did the water come from? LOW and BEHOLD ... There be water. Brantley Lake just outside of Carlsbad. A place for picnics, swimming, camping, boating, ski dooing, wait is that a word? Anyway all the water you can possibly need if you are a desert dweller who occasionally enjoys a dip to cool off. Come on is the water is fine.
Brantley Lake
The glistening white sand on the valley floor, the plants finding a way to survive. The animals that live there. All that sand having blown across the valley floor, creating dunes over so many years. The facts of the missile range, the history of our nation..... the soft white sand.... The planes overhead from Holloman, the beautiful white sand. The outline of the mountain range in the distance..... the sand Boy it sure does get everywhere don't it. But look in the distance what is that in the sand its a... its a... its a ....marble? Oh well it was interesting at the time. Come see let us show you that marble in the sand.
White Sands
