                   The Weather in New Mexico is hot and dry                                          1 tsp.  Cornstarch

CONVENTIONAL OVEN:

Pick a pumpkin with good color.  Wash thoroughly,
cut in half, remove seeds, break or cut into

Package and freeze for pie filling or to cook with
your favorite recipes.

Place two sections of pumpkin (up to 2 1/2 lbs each)

Dear God,

As I carve my pumpkin help
me say this prayer

Open my mind so I can learn
about you;
(cut the top of the pumpkin)
Take away all my sins and
forgive me for the wrong
things I do.
(Clean out the inside.)
Open my eyes so Your love I
will see;
(Cut the eyes)
I'm sorry for turning up my
nose to all You've given me.
( cut the nose)
Open my ears so Your word I
will hear;
(cut the ears)
Open my mouth so I can tell
others You're near.
(cut the mouth)
Let your light shine in all I
say and do! AMEN
(Place a candle inside and light it)

STEP 1

Make a pattern.  No matter how good your intentions, a pattern will help to insure you get the result you want.  A brown paper bag and a marker will work nicely
STEP 2
Hold your pattern up against Jack where you plan to put the face.  Does it fit?  Is it the right shape for the space available?  If not, start again, all you messed up is a piece of paper.  It is also a good way to try new ideas without regrets.
STEP 3
Once you're happy with your design, stick your pattern on Jack with scotch tape or a glue stick.
STEP 4
Put Jack on a smooth, stable surface.  Get a sharp knife with a short blade, serrated blades recommended (carving is potentially dangerous and should be done by an adult or under close adult supervision.)  Cut out the top of the pumpkin first by cutting a round section, large enough ( 5 to 8 inches) to reach inside and scrape out all the seeds and pulp.  Now start on the face.  Work slowly.
 ALWAYS CUT AWAY FROM YOUR HANDS, FACE AND BODY.  SO IF THE KNIFE SLIPS YOU WILL NOT CUT YOURSELF!
When you are finished with the face place a candle inside the pumpkin.  Place the pumpkin where you want it and light the candle for all to see.
HAVE A HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
